Thames Valley Ramblers CC

THE CHANGING FACE OF A WANDERING CRICKET CLUB.

The Bicycle,Motor Cycle & Sidecar and Shank's Pony were the means of transport in the 1920s & 1930s.Today it is the Motor Car which transports Eleven Gladiators to the leafy lanes of Buckinghamshire, the Downs of Berkshire and the villages of Surrey and Hampshire. What is it that attracts the warriors to these far flung places?

CRICKET, and the team, THAMES VALLEY RAMBLERS.

TVR were formed in 1921 by a small band of Cricket enthusiasts from the Ashford/Staines area, when it was quite a trip to play the likes of Windsor Great Park CC,Royal Household CC, and Waltham St Lawrence CC.
People associated with the club in the early days were Bob Whitby and Don McGready. Names taken from old score books include R.E.Miller, J.Russell, R.E.Thornhill, and R.Wendland.More recently we have Clem Hedges, Dick Carpenter,John Knight and Les Williams carrying on the tradition of the Ramblers. Les Williams who came from Jamaica played with Sir Garfield Sobers in his youth.
In the early days 10-15 games were played. Today the fixture list has increased to over 20, starting in April and finishing at the end of September.Windsor Gt Park and the Royal Household are still retained.
To keep the RAMBLERS tradition going, new members are always welcome.
